RZ3 provides dynamic map drawing and printing capabilities with straight forward
tools and graphics designed specifically for the non-technical user.
KEY FEATURES:
1. Independent desktop mapping engine than can consume and produce GIS data in
standard ESRI shapefile format as well as aerial photography, USGS topography
and other raster images in .jpg, .tiff and LizardTech .sid formats.
4. Automated GIS file management system that organizes data into multiple zones
of interest, supports multiple maps within each area and allows individual
layers to be edited and saved for specific maps or an entire mapping zone.
3. Drag, drop and draw new layers onto any map using standard symbol sets. Users
may also design custom symbols in a wide variety of shapes and styles.
4. Powerful data search, display, analysis, reporting and export tools.
5. Full integration with RZSurvey © for Palm OS - An easy handheld solution for
collecting field data of any kind. RZ3 can synchronize with multiple hand-
held devices and immediately display new data points geographically.
6. Automated generation of PDF maps from standard templates for printing on a
variety of standard paper sizes. Both individual maps and map books can be
created from GIS data and rendered with custom text, legends and logos.
7. Drag and drop assembly of PDF documents and auto-completed form entry for
fast and accurate completion of compliance paperwork.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. The "Sample Zone" provided on-line and on the CD provides the best way to
become familiar with RZ3 features and capabilities. The sample data easily
installs to any location and is automatically loaded when RZ3 starts.
2. RZ3 includes an AutoUpdate feature that notifies users of program updates
which can be automatically downloaded and installed. Frequent use of this
tool is the best way to ensure that the latest version is installed.

MODIFICATIONS

The following information itemizes essential differences between the current
version and the final 3.0 release (Build 3.0.141) on September 8,2006.
FEATURES ADDED (3.1.158):
· New Labeling Engine - Automatically analyzes label positions to eliminate
duplication and overlapping within each layer. New configuration options
include halos, character spacing and orientation. Font sizes now scale
appropriately in print layouts as well.
· Active Map Tips - A new "Map Tip" tab on the Layer Properties dialog enables
complete configuration of balloon-style tips for identifying features in the
selected layer. Content, font, color and border settings allow each layer
to have visually unique tips. A photo may also be included in the balloon.
· Expanded Image Support - RZ3 now supports the use of ECW, JPG2000 and MrSID3
formats for orthorectified image layers.
· New Layer Options - The Options Menu in the Layers Window (rightclick) now
includes the ability to email the layer's shapefile components as an attached
Zip archive. Layers can also be completely deleted from this menu.
FEATURES ADDED (3.1.174):
· Click to Identify - The popup menu available by right-clicking on any map
feature now includes an option to automatically open the Identify Window to
display all of the feature's attributes.
· Drag-and-Drop Layers - A map layer can now be dragged in the Layers Window
and dropped between any other two layers, or above or below all layers. The
map automatically re-draws with the new layer ordering.
FEATURES ADDED (3.1.175):
· New Sample Zone - The new "CA Sample Zone" project is now included with the
CD distribution of RZ3. This Zone demonstrates many of RZ3's newer features
like hazard modeling, custom labeling and MapTips.
FEATURES ADDED (3.2.194):
· Text Data Import - ASCII text files using delimiter-separated values to store
latitude, longitude and other point attributes can now be imported by RZ3 and
saved as a shapefile. Coordinates in all common formats are supported.
· Geocoding Utilities - Individual addresses, intersections, streets and cities
can now be located in RZ3 using a local copy of ESRI's StreetMap database and
on-line geocoding services. A new Batch GeoCoder utility is also included on
the Tools Menu to process text files containing address information.
(Note: Only US address searches are supported when RZ3 is off-line.)
· Automatic Reprojection - The data in imported vector layers are automatically
reprojected into the Zone's coordinate system if necessary. Since RZ3 always
makes a separate copy of imported shapefiles, the original data is unaltered.
· Layer Intersects - Any selected polygon(s) may be used as a spatial filter to
determine which features from any layer are displayed in the Identify Window.
· Feature Buffering - Any feature in a layer file may be buffered (enlarged or
reduced in size) and the resulting shape saved and/or used as a temporary
polygon with which to Identify data in other layers.
· Projected Coordinate Grids - Map Layouts can now display labels and grid
lines for the projected coordinate system. This is an optional replacement
for the geocoordinate grid in any map template where they are defined.
· HyperLink Support - Any text cell in the Identify Window (if the uderlying
shapefile field is of sufficient length) can now be used to execute a file,
mail or web link. URLs manually entered in text cells are active immediately
and and can be saved like any other layer attribute.
· Maintenance Reminder - Unpaid software maintenance fees prevent updating RZ3
via the AutoUpdate feature or by downloading a new full install. Users have
always been notified of this at startup, but can now choose to be reminded a
day, week or month later instead.
FEATURES ADDED (3.2.203):
· Garmin USB Devices - Newer Garmin GPS devices (like the Legend HCx) which use
a direct USB connection are now supported. Plotting live positions and down-
loading stored tracks and waypoints is now possible with all Garmin devices.
FEATURES ADDED (3.3.261):
· Independent GPS Monitor - A new GPS interface module now runs in the system
tray, even if RZ3 is closed. Time settings affect text message and playback
displays.
· Screen Saver Suppression - A new GPS option disables any system screen saver
while using the GPS Monitor.
· GPS Download - Tracks stored on a Garmin GPS device are now downloaded and
saved to shapefile with time information (if provided by the GPS device).
Start and end times are correctly shown in the Identify Window based on a
new Zone-level preference for Time Zone conversion. Time values are encoded
within each lines and appropriately recalculated if tracks are split.
· SimpleSync - Web-based synchronization of special survey layers between
multiple instances of RZ3. Configurable refresh rate and key data fields are
supported. Enabled ONLY by Subscription Agreement with RedZone Software LLC.
· SimpleSync - Web-based retrieval and display of "Dynamic" layers as specified
by a user's SimpleSync subscription. Dynamic layers reference moving objects
which are displayed as a current position with optional track and label.
FEATURES ADDED (3.3.274):
· Zip Layer Loading - A zip archive of one or more valid layers can now be
loaded by simply dropping them onto an RZ3 map.
